Update: Former Romanian presidential candidate Călin Georgescu placed under judicial supervision in EUR 1.1 mln scam case
Călin Georgescu was detained for 24 hours by prosecutors from the Directorate for Investigating Organized Crime and Terrorism (DIICOT) on September 21 in a case involving an alleged financial fraud of more than EUR 1.1 million. The next day, judges placed him under judicial supervision.

Prosecutors have requested that he be placed in preventive detention for 30 days, with the request to be considered by the Bucharest Tribunal.
The new investigation is the third criminal case involving Georgescu. In the other two, he is facing charges related to alleged actions aimed at undermining the constitutional order and the promotion of fascist or legionary propaganda.
