Romanian Simona Halep is the fastest female tennis player in the world

Romanian Simona Halep is the fastest female tennis player on the planet, according to data from Tennis Australia’s Game Insight Group (GIG). The Romanian hit a top speed of 23.04 km/h when sprinting more than three meters. Using data collected over the last three years, GIG tracked the movement of players over a distance of three meters or more at the Australian Open, reports Tennismash.com. Spanish tennis player Carla Suarez Navarro ranked second with a top speed of 22.48 km/h, followed by Slovak Dominika Cibulkova with 21.98 km/h, Polish Agnieszka Radwanska and Canadian Eugenie Bouchard with 21.82 km/h. The top ten was completed by Croatian-Australian Ajla Tomljanovic with a top speed of 21.69 km/h, world number 1 Angelique Kerber with 21.46 km/h, Spanish Garbine Muguruza – 21.32 km/h, Serbian Ana Ivanovic – 20.9 km/h, and German Julia Goerges – 20.75 km/h. Other female tennis players included in the ranking were Russian Maria Sharapova (20.61 km/h), American Serena Williams (20.52 km/h), and Belarusian Victoria Azarenka (19.54 km/h). However, when it comes to the players’ average top speed, Simona Halep no longer ranks first. Angelique Kerber had the highest average top speed, of 14.27 km/h, while Romania’s Halep had an average speed of 13.69 km/h. On the men’s side, Serbian Novak Djokovic is the fastest tennis player in the world, with a top speed of 36.02 km/h, followed by Scot Andy Murray with 34.87 km/h, and Australian Lleyton Hewitt with 31.24 km/h. By comparison, Usain Bolt, nicknamed the fastest human ever timed, has a top speed of 44.7 km/h, while the fastest land animal, the cheetah, can reach 120 km/h.
