The average price on Romania’s day-ahead market (DAM) reached RON 793 (some EUR 150) per MWh in August, up around 25% from July and more than double the RON 396 per MWh recorded in August 2025, according to Economica.net and Profit.ro, which compiled data from the local market system operator OPCOM and the European association ENTSO-E.
The Cernavodă nuclear power plant operated with only one of its two units for 13 days and was completely shut down for the rest of the month due to the low flow of the Danube, which dropped to historic levels and no longer allowed the reactors to be adequately cooled. In parallel, also due to the lack of water, hydropower production was massively reduced.
